Do Crowns Boost Oral Health?

Posted on 1/25/2020 by Dr. Karl Zeren
Do Crowns Boost Oral Health?Everyone wants a great smile, but not everyone was born with a great smile. In fact, more than ¾ of us were not born with a beautiful, healthy smile. What are the not perfect people supposed to do?

They want a perfect white smile as well. Did you know that for many people, crowns can be the boost to their smiles they have been looking for? Not only do crowns help with smiles, but they also can boost your oral health. Keep reading for more information about how crowns add to your oral health.

What Are Crowns?

Crowns are also called caps. They are made from porcelain over metal caps. Crowns are used to strengthen teeth that have been weakened due to illness or injury. Above anything else, we work to preserve the teeth. Your gums and jaw are much healthier when your teeth stay in your mouth. Crowns allow us to save teeth, which means we can boost your overall oral health.

Why Are Crowns Important?

When teeth are weakened to the point they fall out, this can have disastrous effects on your gums and jaw. Your other teeth can move to take the place of your missing tooth, which can alter your bite. You may begin to lose jawbone as well. Your gums could also begin to recede. When we place a crown over your weakened tooth, we strengthen and protect it. When you have a tooth that has been crowned, it is able to function normally in your mouth.

We can also crown teeth that are misshapen or discolored, not to protect them, but to improve the cosmetic look of your mouth. If you have questions about crowns and oral health, why not give us a call today? We would love to talk to you about the health of your mouth and how crowning a tooth can make it better.
